Springtime Fun In Kansas City

in KC Fun, Mom Life on 04/17/19

With the warmer air making its breezy entrance into the city, it is time to get out and enjoy everything that gives Kansas City its charm. Over the last few weeks I have managed to get our family out and enjoy these gorgeous days between the chillier ones. From Plaza bunny sightings to my Girl Scouts helping out at the Ronald McDonald Easter event, there is no way for us to not enjoy Kansas City this April.

We love being outside, and that means patio hopping and trying out every park we see going down the road. This spring season started with us taking our usual trip down to the Plaza to have a little photo shoot with all the bunnies and Springtime friends that grace the sidewalks. Doing this is a tradition that dates back to my grandma taking me to see these bunnies (way back in the 80’s). The plaza bunnies are one way that a Kansas City native will know that Spring is here! This is a fun and free thing you can do that gets you into the Easter spirit.

Easter eggs for days.

Once we had out fun seeing these springtime friends, we took a little hop on over to Loose Park. While the rose garden is not in bloom just yet and the fountain just got turned in today (Happy Fountain Day, KC), this park is still gorgeous and the playground is still ready to be enjoyed. While we sipped our coffee, you should checkout HiHat if you’re in the plaza area, and watched Jaylee enjoy the swings and playing with other kids, I could not help but feel my spirits lift. The giggling kids, the warm air, and everyone out enjoying the day makes for a perfect Saturday afternoon.

With the Royals season in full swing, and reasonable ticket prices, you can easily enjoy a weeknight evening or Sunday afternoon at the K. If you do attend a Sunday game, remember to stay after and let your kid run the bases (members of the Blue Crew wait in a little bit shorter line to do this) ! This is a fun way to end your fun afternoon spent at the ballgame.

Baseball is back!

Enjoying watching the boys in blue. We are Always Royal!

You can always enjoy our KC Zoo as well. Touching a Stingray has become a fast favorite for our little girl and the penguins are always fun to watch. There is a new baby King Penguin and baby goats that are adorable to stop and see!

It’s a Lorikeet on a Lori.

This past weekend was another great one to spend outside, although a little chilly. My Girl Scout troop spent their Saturday afternoon hiding and helping the kids at Ronald McDonald House find the over 600 Easter eggs they filled. The troop has done this for 3 years now and it is still just as fun as the first time. From collecting the eggs and candy, to filling them at our meeting, and then delivering and hiding the eggs, this event is one that really gets you into the holiday spirit. The girls love it, the kids love it, and when the weather cooperates, it is even better.

Grinders patio is a great place to enjoy lunch after Easter egg hiding.

If going all the way downtown is not your idea of a fun spring afternoon, there is always something you can do right in your own neighborhood. Grabbing some sidewalk chalk or dusting that scooter or bike off can make for a great afternoon right at home. In fact, that was our simple way to enjoy the KC air yesterday. A walk and scooter ride around our neighborhood park with our sweet little pup was a nice way to end the start of another week.

With Easter coming fast, there are sure to be a lot of things out and around the city this week that involve Easter egg hunts, and being outside. Saturday the 20th, you can head on out to the Harry Truman Presidential Library and enjoy their annual Harry’s Hop and Hunt. If you’re looking for something to enjoy the day but not big on Easter egg hunts, you can also head on out to Longview Lake and enjoy the Flights of Fancy. Remember to grab those kites and your picnic basket. These are just a couple of ideas to help you get out and enjoy the Easter weekend here in Kansas City.

Here’s hoping your Easter holiday is fun-filled and enjoyable. In the meantime, I will be out finding the best patios for you to enjoy as this nicer weather sticks around.

XO,

Lori

Hey, It’s Me

My name is Lori Smith. I am a Kansas City native born and raised. Yes, I’ve loved this city before it was cool through the good times and the bad. If I am not busy writing content for others or myself, you will find me surfing social media for the next fun thing to do around the city, planning our next family vacation, reading a book, or volunteering for one too many things.
